The Rethink Adult Ed Challenge was conducted in two stages. Key dates are described below.
Stage 1
Submissions open

AEFLA-funded adult education providers were invited to submit preliminary designs for pre-apprenticeships.
Virtual information session
October 15, 2020
Luminary Labs and the U.S. Department of Education hosted a virtual information session to share more about the challenge. View the virtual information session recording.
Submissions close
November 25, 2020
Submissions closed on Wednesday, November 25, at 11:59pm ET.
Finalists announced
January 2021
A review panel assessed submissions against the Stage 1 criteria and selected 95 finalists to enter Stage 2.
Stage 2
Virtual accelerator
February 2021 - June 2021
Finalists participated in a virtual accelerator and developed their program proposals.

June 2021
At the end of Stage 2, all finalists were invited to submit program proposals.
Winners announced
September 2021
A judging panel reviewed submitted program proposals against the Stage 2 criteria.
Beyond the accelerator

Fall 2021
Following the end of the challenge, the U.S. Department of Education adapted and shared materials from the virtual accelerator with the wider adult education community. Luminary Labs also hosted an online workshop to share key learnings and resources.
